Assignment Week 3: Due 02.18.11

This week will be the first go at a full scale prototype of our cardboard chairs. With inspirations and ideas from last weeks research, we will translate our ideas into our own chair designs.

Think about what you learned from your case studies and joint studies--What techniques did you find successful? Is there a certain attitude or concept you want to pull from a chair you studied?

Think about the material -- What is cardboard good at? Bad at? What textures does it have? Is there a grain? How can you exploit its material properties?

Think about how you want to use your chair-- Is it to be in a bedroom? A public plaza? A gallery opening? Is it for relaxing? Working?

Be CREATIVE and have FUN!

Aggregations

Just following up on last weeks discussion...there was a question brought up about the definition of aggregate/aggregation..

An aggregate is a collection of items that are gathered together to form a total quantity.

1. To gather into a mass, sum, or whole
2. To amount to; total
3. Composed of a mixture of minerals separable by mechanical means

Many artists and architects have been exploring ideas about aggregation, from aggregating of everyday objects to fabricated units.
