Yoshinobu Miyamoto is an architect and professor who works at Aichi Institute of Technology in Japan. He's a renowned paper engineer and when you see his work you'll understand why.

A set of Pics+slides on how curved folds affect paper creations (a bit on the technical side but it has a lot of good information and resources):

The Abandoned Pod Village of San-Zhi/San-Zhr, Taiwan

Ruins in beach

This doesn't really have anything to do with our current project, but last class I was talking to Constance about something and this somehow came up. I just thought I'd share some photos.

These photos are of an abandoned housing/resort development in San-Zhi/San-Zhr, Taiwan. The origins of this development and its creators are contradictory but the story goes something like this: The Taiwanese government and some local firms commissioned the project (sometime in the 1960's or 1980's) to be a resort or housing development.

Unfortunately, money issues and a number of fatal accidents occurred during construction and the project was shut down. No architect is credited with the village. Until recently, it stood for decades in its unfinished state- redevelopment/renovation wasn't seen as profitable and the deaths prevented it from being torn down (it's taboo to destroy a place where someone's died in some Asian cultures). Rumor has it that it has been torn down, but that's also in dispute.
